Clarisonic Mia 2 Review

It's been a LONG time coming but I finally have for you , my review of the Clarisonic Mia 2! (I'd imagine you'd read that ...

It's been a LONG time coming but I finally have for you, my review of the Clarisonic Mia 2! (I'd imagine you'd read that in an epic announcer voice.... and it rhymes!). I purchased mine during Boxing Day Sales for $161.50 AUD from $190 AUD. It was a limited edition colour 'Faded Rose' which I believe is no longer stocked, on the website at least. Basic colours come in white and pink and there's limited edition versions in blue and green too!

I did do some research back in 2014 on skincare devices and never really thought I needed it. Thanks to a special someone, I bought it on the night of boxing day sales 2015 and got caught up in the hype...I yolo'd and bought it on a 'semi-whim'. I say semi because I spent a considerable amount of time researching, reading reviews and thinking before clicking 'Add to cart'. It wasn't until mid January that I began using it and there's a lot to say about this product so I'll try keep it short and sweet :)

Why I wanted to buy the Clarisonic:

  • To smooth out my bumps and lumps
  • Oil control
  • Minimise enlarged pores
  • Improve my overall skin condition
  • Provide deeper cleansing for my skin to absorb skincare better
For more, see here: Skin Concerns and Benefits

Pros:

  • Smoothened my skin over time
  • Gentle for daily use (I only use it in the evening, post makeup removal)
  • Quick and simple to use
  • Compatible with pretty much any cleanser- I use the Tea Tree cleanser from the Body Shop
  • Therapeutic and relaxing to use at the end of the day
  • 2 speeds
  • 90 Day Feel and See Guarantee- 3 months to trial the product
  • Comes with a sample Clarisonic gel cleanser!

  • Awesome pLink charger

Cons:
  • High maintenance- I remove the head after every wash and dry the handle, inside and the brush head to avoid mould build up (a common thing that happened to lots of users)
  • Takes a looooong time to charge- you need to charge it for 24 hours before first use
  • You need to change the brush heads every 3 months for optimum performance- the bristles become less effective over time. Comparing my old brush head and new one, they look the same but hidden bacteria does form and it had a funny smell....
  • Not as portable as e.g. Foreo
I did think a lot about whether it would irritate my sensitive skin so I bought 4 sensitive skin brushes from ebay for $50. Heaps better value compared to getting it at Mecca for $35 a head D:

Sensitive brush head (left) and Normal brush head (right)

There are lots to keep in mind when wanting to maximise the life of this skincare investment. A very common concern is the 'PURGE' you experience at the beginning of using the product because your skin is adjusting to the Clarisonic. I didn't really experience such a purge but then again, I only use it once a day. It happens to a lot of people and really depends on the person and skin type aaaand how you're using it. You don't need to apply additional pressure, let the weight of the Clarisonic do the work. It could also be because you're using an unsuitable brush.

Along with these two sources I've linked above, there's soooo much you can read and watch if you're considering investing in a Clarisonic. I found over about the course of a month that there was no other skincare product that's made such a big difference to my skin. I still get hormonal breakouts, my pores are probably going to be forever large but my face is much smoother than it used to be.

What are your thoughts on the Clarisonic?

  2. Great review! I remember a couple of years ago I reeeeaally wanted a Clarisonic because they were all the rage but I couldn't afford it! I then thought maybe it would be too harsh, but it's good to hear it's gentle enough for daily use and has 2 speeds and sensitive brush heads! I'm actually getting sent a Purasonic so I'm excited to give it a go!

    1. Thanks! Yeah I guess we were both in that position but yay for jobs! haha . The Purasonic looks super similar to the Clarisonic! I think the same things would apply in terms of having to maintain a device to last longer, I shall wait for your review! :)

  3. I have been contemplating one for ages, but I just don't think the gains justify the price for me, but in saying that, I still really want to give one a go! Thanks for your review!

    1. My pleasure! I think it really depends on the state your skin , so for some people they might not really need a facial cleansing device so all up to you :)
